Órán, who left us far too soon, was much more than a talented athlete and a committed community member; he was a beloved son, brother, friend, and teammate whose impact will never be forgotten. His sudden passing on April 5th, 2025, has sent shockwaves through our club, our community, and all who were privileged to know him.

Órán was a person whose kindness, warmth, and infectious smile lit up every room he entered. Whether on the football pitch, in the heart of Drumgath, or volunteering to give back to his community, Órán was a presence that made everyone feel welcome, valued, and appreciated. His legacy is one of humility, dedication, and genuine compassion for everyone around him. He was not only an exceptional athlete, but he was also someone who embodied the true spirit of community—someone who gave selflessly, with no thought of recognition.

Órán’s love for football was well-known throughout our community. From a young age, he was immersed in the world of Drumgath GAC, first as a fan watching his older siblings, Rachael and Shéa, play, and later as a key player himself. He wore the Drumgath jersey with immense pride, always giving his best for the club he loved so dearly. His talent on the field was undeniable, and his passion for the game was evident in everything he did.

Órán’s football journey was nothing short of extraordinary. He began his competitive career with the U13 team in 2018, where he helped secure the league title. In 2019, Órán played a crucial role in the Drumclone U14 Féile team that won the County title and advanced to the All-Ireland semi-final. His resilience and leadership skills shone brightly as he played a key role in the U15 team that captured the All County B Championship cup in 2021. He continued to excel in his sport, making significant contributions to his team in the U17 Championship Final, the Daniel Bailie Tournament in 2022, and securing the U17 B Championship title in 2023.

In 2024, Órán’s dedication to Drumgath GAC culminated in the U18 Division 2 League win, before making the leap to the Senior level. He was an integral part of the team’s Intermediate Championship success and promotion. In addition to his club achievements, Órán was also a talented player for St. Mark’s School. His sportsmanship, teamwork, and humility made him a beloved figure on the pitch, and he was respected by teammates and opponents alike. Whether he was representing Drumgath GAC or St. Mark’s, Órán’s integrity and passion for the game were unwavering. His legacy on the pitch will forever be part of our club’s history.

While Órán’s achievements on the football pitch are to be celebrated, it was his character off the field that truly defined him. Órán was a young man with a heart of gold—generous, kind, and compassionate. He was the first to offer help to anyone in need, whether it was volunteering at our Cúl Camps, where he was a beloved figure among the children, or taking time out of his day to assist his teammates and friends. He was patient, always willing to lend a hand, and his sense of humor made him a joy to be around.

Órán’s volunteer work extended far beyond the confines of his own community. In 2023, he traveled to Kenya with St. Mark’s on a volunteer trip that had a profound impact on him and the community he served. Órán’s selflessness and dedication to others were evident in everything he did, whether it was giving his time to our club or reaching out to help those in need across the globe. His kindness knew no boundaries, and the love he gave to others will be remembered by all who knew him.

His dedication to the club, his teammates, and his community were unmatched, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The tragedy is compounded by the heartbreaking loss his family has endured.
